Clubroom Renovation (updated March 2008)

Worship service in the ClubhouseFor years, the community's clubhouse had been boarded closed due to vandalism and disrepair. The apartment management recognized the benefit of spiritual instruction in their community and have allowed an agreement for us to maintain the use of the clubhouse based on our renovation.

We've finished the upstairs renovation and are now using the Clubhouse(see picture right). We've also converted a dilapidated laundry room into a classroom downstairs.

Phases

Phase 1) Main Clubroom Upstairs -- done!

Phase 1.5) Kitchen renovation (expansion with cabinets, stove, and sink) -- done! (Special thanks to our friend, Bill)

Phase 2) Convert Laundry Room to Classroom -- done!

Phase 3) Convert remaining downstairs space into 3 more classrooms (not started)
Phase 3 will involve digging down, pouring concrete floor, framing, and finishing. If you have resource that could help with this process, please contact Stephen at StephenP at GoHidalgo dot com.

The Process

Nov. 11, 2006 -- Demolition work was done on the first floor of the clubhouse in the old laundry room. See the pictures.

The top floor of the clubhouse is now mostly complete. Our first event upstairs was the Hidalgo 4th Birthday Party.

In September 2006, we started cleaning out the downstairs laundry room during the Northwest Bible Church CityReach service day.

Update Below from 4-15-2206

Prayer before demolitionAfter over three years of waiting on God's timing, on Saturday, May 7, 2005 we had our first work day in the Clubroom. Members of the Timothy Sunday School Class kicked us off by laying a foundation of prayer. Then began the demolition. We ripped out old carpet, scraped up linoleum, tore out bad ceiling areas, and hauled a lot of trash.
(See the pics here.)
Raising the roof...or knocking it down

The Timothy Class returned for the first paint day in February 2006 and got a majority of the painting done for the upstairs room.

Thanks Timothy Class!

On April 29, 2006 the Hidalgo High Schoolers and Jr. Highers will have a paint day to finish the painting for phase 1 (the upstairs and entrance). We'll then bring in carpeting and flooring, and plan to be done in time for our Hidalgo Fourth Anniversary Party on May 21, 2006.

Clubroom with hole in ceilingThe delays of over 3 years on this project were a reminder that we have to operate in God's timing and not ours.
